AI-Econ Lab hosted conference on AI and jobs

    2024-06-17
    News

On June 12-13, AI-Econ Lab’s third conference took place in Stora Mellösa outside Örebro. This year’s theme was “The Impact of AI on White Collar Work”.

The theme touched upon a changing labor market and in particular the role of technological advances in AI and robotics in this process. Some of the issues discussed were: What has AI adoption looked like in recent years? What role do free data flows play in adoption? Which occupations, skills and abilities will be in demand in the labor market in the future and which will disappear? How are wages affected by these changes? Does technology replace or complement people? Which groups are particularly vulnerable to or can benefit from the new technology? How does digitization affect employees’ health?

Eleven studies on the theme of AI’s use and impact on the labor market were presented and discussed in detail. The studies were mainly empirical and included everything from registry studies or randomized controlled experiments to surveys. The participants were 20 researchers in economics, computer science and management, from eleven countries – USA, Japan, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Finland and Sweden.

The conference was organized at Örebro University in collaboration with Ratio. The financier was Jan Wallanders och Tom Hedelius stiftelse.

Researchers from several countries met in Stora Mellösa to discuss AI and the labor market.
