Ali Ahmed is professor of economics, and his research mostly concerns issues related to unequal treatment of and discrimination against vulnerable groups of people in different markets and in society in general. Among other things, he has studied sex discrimination, ethnic discrimination, sexual orientation discrimination, and transgender discrimination in the labor market. He mainly uses experimental approaches in his research, such as field experiments, online experiments, and lab experiments. In addition to his research on discrimination, he has also addressed issues within behavioral economics, financial economics, Islamic economics, economics of religion, and economics of sustainable development.

Ahmed is also a researcher at Linköping University, where he is the head of the division of economics. He is a member of the editorial advisory board of Ekonomisk Debatt.
