Lunch Seminar: The Case Against Education – Why the Education System Is a Waste of Time and Money
NyheterThe higher education system has been greatly expanded in the OECD countries. In Sweden the system has doubled since the nineties. More students are getting masters degrees and the educational programs are getting longer.
In The Case Against Education – Why the Education System Is a Waste of Time and Money Professor Bryan Caplan, from George Mason University, claims that the expansion of the education system is a waste of time and money.
He argues that the higher education has little effect on the human capital of the students, but rather that the education system is used for signaling. Getting a degree is more about signaling intelligence and work ethic. Caplan argues that the solution is to decrease public spending on higher education and increase vocational training programs.
